Your Online Nanny

As many of you know (as you found this blog through the website), I have started a child care website titled YourOnlineNanny.com (hence the blatant website display at the top of this page.) I'm making changes & adding to it every week. What I've learned is this: Websiting is hard, y'all.

Gimme a kid & I'll be efficient & effective, but gimme a computer & I'll find the hardest way to go about operating it. There will be tears at some point. And cursing. Oh, the cursing. It makes my lil wiener dog run & take cover. And after the tears and cursing, there will be plenty of distractions to take me away from the computer ("I really should color coordinate my closet before getting to that website. Greg's should be color coordinated too. He only THINKS he owns all blue shirts. Pfft, I'll show him.") And the crazy ridiculous heightened self-esteem I get from actually succeeding at something regarding the computer borders on hysteria. It's like I'm a toddler and peed on the "big girl potty" for the first time - lots of cheering for myself and yells of "I did it! I did it!" I'm fairly certain I deserve some sort of celebratory treat for my stellar accomplishments.

We're all good at something. For me, this something is NOT computers. But I will continue to try...and freak out the dog.

Babies Don't Drive

Took another step towards opening an in home child care – completed my Pediatric First Aid/CPR training. 8 long hours of information I’ve sat through multiple times due to many years in child care. You’d think ½ hour for lunch wouldn’t be enough, but after looking at pictures of wounds, it’s plenty. It’s a bit odd that in a “pediatric” class, we cover what to do if you come upon an injured driver (I find that babies rarely drive vehicles), ways to prevent a stroke (don’t smoke – I find that babies rarely smoke) and how to safely move an unconscious “larger individual” (I find babies are often smaller than I.) All useful info, certainly, but seemingly misplaced in this particular class. And in summation, all scenarios include “call 911.” The 7 hour Preventative Care Class is in two weeks. I’ve taken that class previously as well – 7 hours of how to wash your hands and warnings against splashing around in blood. Also an appetizing way to prepare for lunch. Mmmmm. Wish me luck!

What's New for 2012

It's already February? Crap. Or "yea", perhaps. After years of working as a professional nanny, I've begun a new child care endeavor! I've started the VERY early stages of starting a small in home child care as well as a child care website for parents & nannies http://www.YourOnlineNanny.com

I'm unsure if the in home child care will be a full day child care or more of a "Mommy Morning Out" where I would care for children for a few hours in the morning/early afternoon. In the beginning I suppose I'll have to cater to the demand. And how much demand is there? Well, there are not one, but TWO in home daycares walking distance to my home (one can almost be spotted from my front door.) How's that for a smart business plan on my part? But that's why I'm leaning towards the "Mommy Morning Out" - there'd be no enrollment or application nor a monthly non-refundable fee. It would be a "pay as needed" service requiring very little notice (just call to check for availability.) We'll see...

Needed a change and hopefully this will be a great one! Change is good (isn't that what they say?) so I will welcome it with open (and slightly nervous) arms. That means I'm hugging it, right?
