Ollie arrived a full 3 weeks ahead of schedule (and for some reason, to much surprise from me who kept dismissing actual labor as a "false labor.") So much so, that before leaving for the hospital when contractions were 5 minutes apart and Greg was running around gathering stuff, I still lay in bed saying, "What are you doing? I'm just not sure." Well, I was wrong. Upon arriving at the hospital (and having been experiencing contractions for a full 24 hours prior), I learned that I was already 7cm dilated. Oops. Unlike with Myles, I immediately requested that awesome epidural while telling the doctor, "There are no heroes here. Epidural please." Quickly we got the ball rolling; however, in that short amount of time, I progressed so quickly that after the epidural was administered I was still feeling my contractions. They checked me & I was already at 9! So, they upped the epidural (yea!) and very quickly, it was time to push. Within an hour, little Oliver (who remained nameless a full 24 hours) made his appearance & his voice heard! There's nothing that stops the heart & opens the floodgates like that first cry - amazing!

Eyeballs, I swear, the kid DOES have eyeballs

After Ollie's follow-up at our regular pediatrician, we learned that he was jaundiced. This required him to wear bilirubin "blankets" - two vinyl covered fiber optic pads taped around him, connected to long hoses, hooked to 2 hot generators 24 hours/day for 3 1/2 days straight. Greg & I took turns holding him the entire time (if we didn't, he slipped out from the "bili blankets" and had to be retaped.) This also required daily bloodwork at our pediatrician's office. It was a giant pain. Literally. It hurts to sit all night after giving birth. HOWEVER, after the 4th day, we were given the "ok" to discontinue use, YEA! And one day, Greg & I will look at Ollie and then to each other & say, "Remember when he was jaundiced & we had to hold him all night while he glowed in the dark? That was nuts!"

Myles has reacted great with Ollie. Although clingy and whinier with us now that we've returned from the hospital, Myles gets excited to see Ollie each morning and concerned whenever he hears him make the slightest cry. Myles "pets" Ollie & says, "Baby, baby", he holds his hand & will give him kisses on his head. And the cutest is when Myles calls him..."Ah-yee, Ah-yee." When Ollie was still wearing the bilirubin blankets, Greg asked me, "Do you think Myles will still be as intrigued by Ollie once he no longer glows in the dark?" Thankfully, the answer has been "yes."
